Pivot Your Personal Brand With A Cohesive Narrative

To think there are so many versions of you out there in the wild right now.

The version living in the mind of your high school best friend, forever seventeen and certain McDonald’s is a food group.

The version held by a boss who never appreciated your creative flair.

The clerk who saw you at the liquor store thrice that week.

The guy who honked at you?

Don’t even get me started.

We are all walking anthologies of other people’s temporary glimpses.

Snapshots never tell the whole story, though most looking at them think it’s the entire album.

It’s what makes the internet a particularly punishing place for anyone who dares to evolve.

Systematically and culturally, we’re encouraged to pick a niche, become known for one thing, and stay attached to one identity.

But as we seek, pursue our curiosities, and learn to listen to ourselves, we’re confronted by the consequences of outgrowing our digital footprint.

“Will this confuse my audience?”

“How do I explain such a disconnected path?”

Entering my seventh year online, I’ve realized that if you’re committed to yourself, not past versions of you, the way you talk about your work and offer your insights will naturally change.

Don’t call it a pivot when it’s really an evolution.

Closing one chapter and starting another in a body of work that proudly proclaims:

This is me now, and I’m more than OK with it.

The funny thing about owning your next chapter isn’t that those questions about others perception of you go away.

It’s that you know how to answer them.

Because you’ll have answered them for yourself—without a doubt.

The more you believe you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be, the better perspective you have on the windy road that brought you to this very place.

It’s a vantage point that sheds light on your convictions, values, point of view, which turns out is the throughline of your narrative.

The story that connects all the pieces together clearly for you—and the people witnessing your evolution.
